This time of year we often feel like we have no energy and everything can feel harder to do. Motivation can wane. Try these tips below to start getting more energy and know that's its ok to hibernate in this season, staring the year slowly and building up.
1) Get natural daylight as soon as you wake up. The mornings are starting to get a little lighter. This helps us to reset our internal clock.
2) Rest when you can, I tend to go to bed a bit earlier this time of year, it's cold and dark. Quality sleep is important for energy levels.
3) Move regularly. This can increase energy as you are boosting circulation sending oxygen-rich blood to your cells which provides a lift. Even gentle exercise can help, a walk around the block, stretches or yoga. I have a mat that I use when I work from home.
4) Eat nourishing, warming foods. Soups and stews filled with vegetables and beans or lentils can nourish the body and help after the Christmas period to help you get more energy. Try to limit the biscuits and sweets, although a bit of dark chocolate which contains iron, and other nutrients, including fibre is ok (best to have over 70% of good quality dark chocolate).
5) Remove clutter. I had a lot of 'stuff' around the house after the festive period and once everything was tidied away and the space cleared I felt more energised. Physical clutter can impact us emotionally.
